Fort Amherst is a historic Ancient Monument set within 20 acres of parkland just 40 minutes from London and 45 minutes from the Channel ports of Dover and Folkestone.
The Fort is the largest Napoleonic Fortress in Britain and includes an amazing tunnel complex carved deep into the chalk and a range of fortified buildings and gun emplacements including the Grand Magazine, the Gatehouse which controlled entry to the Fort, the Guardhouse, Prince William’s battery and the soldiers' barracks.
Some of these buildings have been restored, whilst others are awaiting restoration. The park like grounds include well maintained lawned areas as well as rougher and more overgrown areas with ruined buildings.
We can supply power to some but not all areas of the Fort and there is parking available on site as well as a Café which serves light meals and refreshments.
Please check suitability for large or numerous vehicles at time of enquiry.
