Tunnel Tours are available daily. We are currently running our Glimpse of Christmas Past event in December 2024. Standard tunnel tours will resume on 6th January 2025.
We estimate that the Tunnel Tours last approximately 80 minutes. To visit the entire Fort should take you approximately 2 hours.
Sadly not, we need to ensure you are safe so you must be accompanied by a tour guide.
We welcome visitors of all ages, however as an ancient scheduled monument we are restricted to the adjustments that we can make. The Tunnel Tours are currently unavailable for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility due to the uneven floors and steep steps.
We do have accessible toilets available.
The Tunnels are uneven with steep steps at point and therefore are not suitable for buggies. The tunnels can also be quite scary for smaller children and history may not be their thing, so we recommend that children be over the age of 5.
Unfortunately you are not able to take buggies into the tunnels.
We do have other activities on site such as trails which may be more suitable for smaller children.
Our grounds are free to visit throughout the year, however you will need to pay for parking. On occasion areas of the Fort may be closed for events.
Thanks to National Lottery funding we do have a children's play area, suitable for smaller children.
We welcome dogs on leads in all of our external areas and cafe. We do not currently allow dogs within our historic buildings, such as the Tunnels.
4 hours free parking is included in your Tunnel Tour ticket price, you MUST enter your vehicle registrations in the machine in the Pantry.
If you visit for longer than 4 hours you will need to pay £1 per hour.
Visitors to the Pantry Cafe receive two hours complimentary parking, you MUST enter your vehicle registration in the machine in the Pantry.
Disabled visitors should pay the standard admission price, we do offer a carer free of charge (carer will need to show a form of ID upon arrival)
Please note that due to uneven floors and steep steps within the tunnel complex, the Tunnel Tour is unsuitable for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility.
Yes we do, serving delicious food all prepared in house.
Sure! Picnic to your heart's content, however only food purchased in the Cannon Cafe may be eaten in the Cafe. Please note that we do not have storage facilities.
BBQs are strictly prohibited unless pre-agreed by management.
Please check our events calendar for weekends that we have re-enactors on site.
